Much better than the live Albert Hall recording. Kate Royal’s studio singing is superior, respecting McCartney’s instruction to sing with clean, pure tone and minimal vibrato. In the live audience situation her ego naturally inflates a little, and she adopts a more “expressive” style that works less well. The live version is also a little rushed in places, quite noticeable in the Gratia. Anyway, a marvellous piece, bursting with lovely ideas, suffering only (IMO) from some problems in the first movement.
